Warm Decembers?
I remember running around in shorts and a tee shirt on one late December day as a child. Do you remember a time when it was 65+ degrees in December? In 2012 a record high of 73 degrees F was recorded on December 3rd. 2021 had the hottest average high temperature for a Champaign December.
Be prepared
Ensure Exhaust Vents Are Clear: It's crucial to keep exhaust vents free from obstructions like snow and ice. Blocked vents can lead to dangerous carbon monoxide buildup inside your home, posing serious health risks.
Covering Your AC Unit: While some homeowners choose to cover their air conditioning units during winter to protect them from debris, it's generally not necessary. Modern AC units are designed to withstand winter conditions. If you do decide to use a cover, ensure it's breathable to prevent moisture buildup, which can cause rust and damage.
Why is my room cold?
Experiencing cold spots in your home can be uncomfortable.
A simple, budget-friendly way to improve comfort in cold rooms is to use a thermostat with remote temperature sensors, like the Ecobee Pro. You can place a sensor in the cold room, and the thermostat will average the temperature readings from the main thermostat and the sensor. This lets your system run a little longer to even things out and keep that cold room more comfortable.
While it can be an investment, a zoning system lets you control the temperature in different areas of your home independently. By using multiple thermostats and dampers in your ductwork, it directs heating and cooling exactly where it’s needed, improving both comfort and energy efficiency. This requires the help of an HVAC professional to design and install. Give us a call to learn more.
